Out of all the tools allowing creating a map from Open Street Map data, I have found none which is instantaneous, easy to use, and that works well. The one on the front page for Open Street Map, for instance, seems to crash when the selected area is too big.
I have thus created a page to do that. You can choose a style from several providers (top-right icon), select an area on the map, choose the image resolution at the bottom left, and finally download an image of the map. The tiles (the square image pieces forming the displayed map) are retrieved from existing providers’ servers, and the retrieval itself happens inside the browser. They are then automatically assembled.
Please note that downloading many tiles at once is heavily frowned upon by the tile providers. Yet it is exactly what this application does. Please go easy on downloading huge maps, and download only the bear necessity.
